What lubricants should you avoid with condoms?
Personal lubricants can smooth the sex and make it more pleasurable. Some consumer also like to use it separately, which means more extra lube on the condom. When you are practicing safer sex, some extra lubricants can be incredibly beneficial. Lube makes sex feel more natural with condom, and by decreasing friction, it provides some additional protection for sensitive skins.
However, you need to choose a lubricant that is compatible with your condoms. The good news is that you have got plenty of options; silicone and water-based lubricants are completely safe to use with latex condom. In fact, there is really only one lubricant ingredient that can significantly increase the chances of a latex condom breakage: oil. Oil-based lubricants are not safe to use with condoms (with one notable exception, Simply Slick) because they permeate the tiny pores in the latex, wearing away at them and causing damage.
Oil-based lubricants are not recommended with condoms because the oils break down latex. Oils penetrate and weaken the latex structure, causing it to stretch, thin out, or form tiny holes. This greatly increases the risk of tearing or bursting during use. Only water-based or silicone-based lubes are safe with latex condoms. When you put pressure on the condoms – as you do during sex – these tiny holes can expand and the condom can break in a while. So we must choose the right type lubricants and let’s enjoy the pleasure.
